Professor Goebel brings his experience in the real estate business into the classroom for the classes that he teaches in real estate appraisal and finance.  While on the faculty at Texas Tech, he has maintained his close contacts with the real estate community.  He is active in consulting on valuation issues, and has served as the Chair of the City of Lubbock Planning and Zoning Commission.  Paul is a past President of the Texas Tech University Faculty Senate and serves on the faculty of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at SMU.  He is a licensed Texas Real Estate Broker, and is a member of the local, state and National Association of Realtors©. Paul also serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Texas Tech Federal Credit Union, a $55 million plus financial institution.

While on the faculty at Texas Tech University, Professor Goebel has been recognized for his excellence in teaching.  He is a past recipient of the Mortar Board/Omnicron Delta Kappa Outstanding Faculty Award and was named the Finance Association "Outstanding Professor in Finance" in 1999 and 2006.

Professor Goebel has authored several books on real estate finance, and his research interests are primarily in real estate.  Professor Goebel's research has appeared in many journals including the Journal of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association, Journal of Real Estate Research, Journal of Real Estate Taxation, Journal of Property Research, Appraisal Journal, Policy Sciences, Journal of Housing, Real Estate Issues, International Real Estate Journal, and Real Estate Review.
