Dr. Stuart Gillan is Associate and Jerry S.
Rawls Professor of Finance. Prior to joining Texas Tech, he has held positions as visiting
Assistant Professor at Arizona State
University, Assistant Professor of Finance and Director of Research
in the Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of
Delaware, Senior Research Fellow with the TIAA-CREF Institute, Associate
Chief Economist at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission,
and Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Hong Kong. He
received his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Business at the University
of Texas, Austin. His Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) and Masters of
Commerce degrees are from the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Dr. Gillan has written and published numerous papers on corporate governance including: corporate restructuring, executive compensation, shareholder voting, and the structure and activity of corporate audit committees. He has published in the Contemporary Finance Digest, Financial Management, Journal of Applied Finance, Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Financial Economics. His research has received best paper awards from academic finance groups including Financial Management Association International and the Western Finance Association.
